The Problem

Life drawing curricula have not changed since the 19th century. Students study classical contrapposto while the world around them moves in entirely different ways asymmetric, screen-bent, weight-shifted, mid-motion.

Reformma Institute is the only figure drawing archive built specifically for how contemporary bodies actually look. No classical poses. No stock-photo stiffness. Original hand-drawn studies in the postures that define 21st-century physical life, curated and licensed directly to art schools.

Archive Categories 8,400+ references across 10 pose families
01
Slouch / Weight-Shift
Standing but not standing straight. Hips off-centre, spine curved.
02
Screen Reference
Head dropped, shoulders rolled. The defining posture of the decade.
03
Mid-Stride
Walking, running, moving through urban space. True foreshortening.
04
Floor / Ground
Seated on floor, sprawled, cross-legged, propped against wall.
05
Overhead Reach
Arms raised, torso extended. Full underside anatomy exposed.
06
Crouch / Low Centre
Knees bent, body compressed. Foreshortened limbs at extreme angles.
07
Wall Lean
Supported posture weight transferred to a surface. Casual gravity.
08
Over-Shoulder Twist
Spine rotation at various angles. Counter-pose between hips and shoulders.
09
Seated · Asymmetric
Chair, floor, step. Informal sitting that breaks the vertical axis.
10
Expressive Gesture
Hands and arms as communication. Contemporary body language.

What we
want

Contemporary postures that classical archives have never captured. Real bodies in real situations — not heroic, not idealised.

Everyday postures
Slouching, leaning, sprawling, reaching. How your body actually rests and moves through a normal day.
Screen-era poses
Head dropped to phone, hunched at desk, legs crossed on floor. The defining postures of 2024.
Motion and stride
Mid-walk, crouching, reaching overhead. Dynamic poses that reveal foreshortening and weight-shift.
Strong tonal contrast
Charcoal, pastel, ink, sanguine. Work that reads clearly as a tonal study — light and shadow doing the structural work.
Classical contrapposto
We don't need what every other archive already has. No heroic standing poses, no formal academic stances.
Digital illustration
No digital painting or AI-generated work. Institutions need hand-drawn tonal reference on physical or scanned media.
